Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died at 92 in Delhi.

Ibrahim, who worked alongside Singh in the 1990s when both served as finance ministers, praised Singh’s pivotal role in transforming India’s economy. He described Singh as a cherished friend and a key figure in India’s rise as a global economic power.

Sharing a personal story, Ibrahim recalled Singh’s offer to provide scholarships for his children during Ibrahim’s imprisonment—a gesture that, while declined, showcased Singh’s exceptional kindness and generosity.

Ibrahim’s tribute highlights the profound impact of Singh’s leadership and the deep personal bonds he formed with global leaders.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, was 92 years old.

Ibrahim reflected on their collaboration during the 1990s, emphasizing their shared commitment to combating corruption and their joint efforts in addressing significant cases.

In his tribute, Ibrahim stated, “Dr. Manmohan Singh, slightly awkward as a politician but undeniably upright, steadfast, and resolute as a statesman, leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.”

He concluded with a heartfelt farewell: “Goodbye, my mitra, my bhai, Manmohan.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died at the age of 92. In a heartfelt message, Modi described Singh as a distinguished leader whose life exemplified honesty and simplicity. He acknowledged Singh’s pivotal role in steering India through economic challenges, stating, “He gave the country that was reeling under economic crisis, a new direction in terms of economy.”

Modi also highlighted Singh’s insightful contributions in Parliament and his extensive efforts to improve the lives of the Indian people. He remarked, “His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives.”

As a mark of respect, Modi visited Singh’s residence to pay his last respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family.

Singh, known as the architect of India’s economic reforms, served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. His tenure was marked by significant economic transformations that have had a lasting impact on the nation.
